The Infante John, Prince of Girona (Spanish: Juan, Aragonese: Chuan) was an Aragonese infante, only son of King Ferdinand II of Aragon and Queen Germaine of Foix. He was born heir to the throne in 1509, the long awaited male heir of his father. King Ferdinand II hope to father a new heir of Aragon, separating it from Castile. It would have denied his son-in-law Philip I of Castile, and his grandson Charles I, from inheriting the crown and governance of Aragon. John would have been heir to a vast realm including Aragon, Valencia, Majorca, and Catalonia in Spain, and the Kingdom of Naples, Sicily and Sardinia in the Italian peninsula and the Tyrrhenian Sea, but he died within hours of his birth. The title of Prince of Girona then passed again to Joanna of Castile, his half-sister, who would later succeed as the Queen of both Castile and Aragon.
